Our operations are deeply rooted in sustainability, starting right from the design of the building, recycling heat from our condensers to warm the visitor building and designed with sensitivity to the area’s Outstanding Natural Landscape. Our sustainability initiatives include community projects, responsibly sourcing locally available materials, energy-efficient processes, native bushland regeneration projects and water conservation. A key element of this commitment is the careful management of the Cardrona water catchment area which feeds Alvin’s Well, where we draw the pristine alpine water essential for the distinct taste of our spirits. Our approach to sustainability is reflective of our  dedication to preserving the natural resources of the Cardrona Valley.

  • The carbon footprint of reusing the spent grain is amongst the lowest in the world, it is fed to the neighbouring sheep, deer and cattle on the historic Cardrona Valley Farm Station.

  • The Distillery is the Primary Supporter for The Cardrona Foundation’s The Kārearea Project, ensuring this project continues its science-based research and community engagement well into the future. The kārearea is New Zealand’s endangered native falcon, and the Project is supported by the businesses and people of the valley who all share a passion for the environment and are keen to help conserve the kārearea and help it thrive.
